DAY TO DAY ITINERARY: |
|
Day 1 Fly USA to Papeete |
|
Once you clear customs and immigration,
look for your name on the board. Your Tekura Tahiti representative will
assist you to your transfer vehicle. |
|
Papeete, the capital and commercial hub
of French Polynesia, hosts the government offices, hospitals, banks,
airline and travel agencies, boutiques and black pearl shops. The Central
Market (Marché Central) is a must, located 1 block behind the waterfront.
You will see traditional Tahitian crafts, flowers, fruits, fish and other
produce. The waterfront is attractive, with a tree lined promenade along
a marina with an international yachting community. |
|
International cargo freighters, copra
ships, luxury liners and sailing yachts share the harbor. There are
several excellent restaurants (this is a little France after all) with
menus featuring French, Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese and American choices
in addition to local specialties (upstairs in the Central Market, nice
lunch fare with a local band - a popular place). Prices vary to fit just
about any budget, starting at about US$12 for a main course. |
|
If you are on a budget or want to get
into some local color, there is also some good food to be had on the
waterfront parking lot in the center of town. This is where, after 6 pm,
you will find the "Roulottes", about 2 dozen licensed food trucks offering
a variety of inexpensive but fresh and well prepared dishes. This is funky
dining on hard stools amongst locals, tourists - even airline crew, and
the sights are almost as good as the food. A busy small city, Papeete hums
with happy sounds in a tropical atmosphere with French flavor and an
easygoing Tahitian disposition. |
|
Day 2 Fly Papeete to Moorea |
|
Please wait in the hotel lobby area for
your transfer to Papeete airport for your flight to Moorea. Upon arrival
you will be transferred to your accommodation. |
|
Less than 10 minutes away from Tahiti by
air or less than one hour by ferry are the deep, spectacular bays and
white sand beaches of Moorea. The craggy volcanic peaks, reflected in the
tranquil waters of Cook's Bay and Oponohu Bay, rise like a shark's jaw
from the island's basaltic base. The lush mountain slopes are covered with
rain forest or pineapple plantations, and white sand beaches border
crystalline lagoons. |
|
Only 40 miles around on a well paved
road along the shore, this dramatic and lush island can easily be circled
by car, scooter or on bicycle for the more physically inclined. You can
also enjoy horseback riding along the beach or the interior, hikes to
hidden waterfalls or visit the Belvedere's very spectacular scenic view
point. |
|
For a truly spectacular Tahitian Show,
the best anywhere in Polynesia, go to the Tiki Village where you will
enjoy a memorable lagoon-side dinner and spectacular show. The owner,
Olivier Briac has also made this unique Tahitian environment famous for
his spectacular Royal Tahitian Weddings which have been a favorite of
movie stars such as Dustin Hoffman as well as the international jet-set. |
|
There is no town to speak-of on Moorea,
but you will find a few areas along the road with clusters of shops
selling miscellaneous goods, local crafts and colorful hand printed
fabrics (pareos). A few black pearl shops can be found on the island, but
we recommend Island Fashion Black Pearls near Cook's Bay. It is run by Ron
Hall, a friendly American expatriates who knows his stuff and offers a
good selection of quality pearls at very competitive prices. |
|
Days 3-4 At leisure, Moorea |
|
If you're in the mood for adventure,
choose from a number of activities including sailing, scuba diving,
snorkeling, jetskiing, waterskiing and windsurfing. If you want to get wet
and experience the Polynesian waters right away, try a water sport. You
will discover that Moorea is a South Sea Island playground worthy of your
attention! Or simply indulge in some serious relaxation. |
|
Day 5 Fly Moorea to Bora Bora |
|
Please wait in the hotel lobby area for
your transfer to the airport for your flight to Bora Bora. Upon arrival
you will be transferred to your accommodation by boat. |
|
Bora Bora - Unquestionably the most
mythical of the Pacific islands remains the island of all dreams. So much
has been written about Bora Bora, and yet it is hard to find the right
words to describe the magic that emanates from this island. |
|
Seen from the air, the view has been
compared to that of "a tiny emerald in a setting of turquoise, encircled
by a sheltering necklace of sparkling pearls". The airport, built by US
forces in 1942, is located on a palm fringed motu about 20 minutes by boat
from the main village of Vaitape. The view of the main island from the
airport is truly breathtaking, and as you travel across the spectacular
lagoon you will soon understand why it is the main area of attraction for
most visitors. |
|
Days 6-7 At leisure, Bora Bora |
|
This island offers a multitude of
activities and excursions, one of the most popular being the shark's
"breakfast" where from chest-deep water you watch local divers feed 4' to
5' reef sharks by hand. It's a lot of fun and totally safe. The same
routine is done with a large group of friendly stingrays. |
|
Tourist facilities are not too numerous,
and understated enough so as not to alter the landscape's beauty. |
|
Day 8 Fly Bora Bora to Sydney (Via
Papeete & Auckland) |
|
Day 9 Arrive Sydney |
|
On arrival into Sydney you will need to
clear customs and make your way through the main arrivals hall from where
you be met and transferred to your accommodation. |
|
Sydney - Australia's premier city is the
oldest settlement in Australia, the economic powerhouse of the nation and
the country's capital in everything but name. Built on the shores of the
stunning Port Jackson, you would have to die and go to heaven before you
see a more spectacular setting for a city. It's a vital, self-regarding
metropolis, exuding both a devil-may-care urbanity and a slavish obsession
with global fads. The Sydney area was the ancestral home of the Daruk
tribe, whose territory extended from Botany Bay to Pittwater. |
|
There are some 2000 Aboriginal rock
engraving sites in the Sydney area, and many of Sydney's suburbs have
Aboriginal names. The city of Sydney began life as a penal colony in 1788,
and for the next 60 years received the unwanted, persecuted and criminal
elements of British society. Despite its brutal beginnings, the city's
mixture of pragmatic egalitarianism and plain indifference has transformed
it into a thriving multicultural society. Sydney now attracts the majority
of Australia's immigrants and the city's predominantly Anglo-Irish
heritage has been revitalized by large influxes of Italian, Lebanese,
Turkish, Greek, Chinese and Vietnamese. |
|
Days 10-13 At leisure, Sydney |
|
At your leisure to explore Sydney. Most
of the major attractions of the city are within easy walking distance of
your accommodation - Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour, Centrepoint
Tower, Circular Quay, The Rocks etc. |
|
Day 14 Fly Sydney to USA (Via
Auckland & Papeete) |
|
Today you will bid farewell to Sydney as
you transfer to the airport for your departure flight. |
